Easter Week

.Our Easter Week has revived the traditional procession "of the Jews".

Two files armoured clad romans with the captain leading the way, they accompany and lead the Good Friday processions: the Way of the Cross, in the morning and the entombment at night.

In the middle of the marching soldiers, the proud "lady of Samaria", and behind them Jesus of Nazareth, the sad Virgin Mother; behind come the dancing soldiers at the tomb and the "three Marys".

The soldiers march in step maintaining the rythm and timing of the procession.

Formerly every station or stop was marked with a ceramic plaque of the 18th century, fixed in the walls of those streets where the procession passes (today only three plaques remain and it is worthwhile to see them).

The vestments, the ritual, the staging, the setting... all together make this religious festival a great impression. Every year many people come to Esterri accompanying the procession at the streets and enjoying the visual spectacle.
