Founded in 1985 under the tutelage of the City Council, today it is part of the Regional Archive of Pallars Sobirà.

Its purpose is recovering, protecting, preserving, and spreading the historic documents of the municipalities of Àneu vallies.
The material is basically municipal, notarial and ecclesiastical comprehending the 16th to 20th centuries of the municipalities of Alt Àneu, Esterri d'Àneu, and La Guingueta d'Àneu.
Among these items are a facsimile of the Llibre dels Costums i Ordinacions de les valls d'Àneu ("The Book of Customs and Ordinances of the Valls d'Àneu").
